THE ARCTIC TUNEThe ice desert and the dark ocean. The low grey clouds And the small shining ball of the sun... So far, far away... The fishing-boat has navigated Too far to the North... The huge dark waves played with it And with the blue ice-blocks... The fishers clenched their teeth And caught hold of the boat, Of life... All the world was here, In this small boat... Suddenly the old captain Burst out laughing: Hey, chaps! Today is Christmas day! Everything will be well! In answer the chaps only smiled. The old salt was joking as ever... The wind was lashing with snow And singing an evil song. But what is it? Something purely white... And light among the storm. The old captain looked at it narrowly... A Snow angel? Where did he spring from? What's a wonderful music! Like from my childhood... Nothing was around him - Only this strange vision... The snow angel drew near, Shining sunny face... He smiled, He stretched out his hand... A small magical ruby was In his palm, The ruby sparkled like a star... Yes, Sam, you and your crew Will be saved... The ruby glared so brightly... But the old captain Didn't close his tired eyes... The vision was gone and He saw the way. He saw the black line of the land... "The land" - his lips whispered... "The land!" - He shouted. And everybody looking up whispered: Indeed, today is Christmas day... (C) Alexander Kalinkin |
