EPISODE 2

The forest path turns. Grandpa makes some steps and stops rubbing his bristly chin.

NICKY (glancing at grandpa): What?

GRANDPA (looking back): Not good. We should get that snake out of the path otherwise somebody may step on it.

NICKY: But it can bite us.

GRANDPA (picking up a solid stick): Not me, I won't give it a chance. But you should stay as far as possible.

NICKY: Do you want to kill it with this stick?

GRANDPA (testing solidity of the stick): I'm not - just through it away. Well... this is O'Key. Let's go. And remember, you shouldn't come too close.

NICKY (nodding): Yes, I understood.

Now a strange guy appears from the path turning. He is tall, his oval face has regular but handsome features, his black hairs are combed back and plaited. Eyes look down. His clothes are a black leather jacket and trousers. Hands conceal in pockets. He walks quickly and smoothly. No a basket, no a bucket.

GRANDPA (surprisingly): Hello!

The guy casts a glance at him. His eyes are yellow and cold. Not saying a word the guy goes by. Nicky hided behind grandpa while the guy is going by.

GRANDPA (following the stranger by eyes): Without a basket... er... It's strange.

The guy turned back scorching grandpa with his cold look. Then he hurries on.

GRANDPA (rubbing his chin): Yeah... What an odd fellow! He seems to be a newcomer. I've never seen him before… at least in our village. Well, what am I going to do?

Grandpa twiddles the stick.

NICKY (whispering): You're going to through the viper away from the path.

GRANDPA (joyfully): Yes, you're right. Why are you whispering?

NICKY (whispering again): Because he can hear.

GRANDPA: Who? This stranger? Nonsense! Although he goes by the snake somehow. Yeah, he does.

Quickening steps grandpa and Nicky come back to the place where the snake was. But the snake has gone. A black leather belt lies on that place.

GRANDPA (touching the belt with his stick): Hm... I don't understand. It was right here...

NICKY (whispering): I've told you that but you didn't believe me.

GRANDPA: May be he... maybe he simply has lost the belt. Maybe we should overtake him and... give him it.

NICKY: No, let's go away from here. I'm scaring.

GRANDPA (starring at the belt): You're right, Nicky. Something is wrong here. I know another place. There are berries in plenty. It's not too far.

NICKY (casting a glance at the path turn): Grandpa, let's go home. He can come back for the belt.

GRANDPA (taking Nicky's hand): He won't. At least not now. He walked fast, almost ran. But honestly to say I also want to go home. We got out too late. The sun is high. You see.

A MYSTICAL ANXIOUS MELODY IS SOUNDING HERE.
